Ways to Relate to National Bird Day Even If You are Not a Birder

Those that love nature and birds across the country annually recognize National Bird Day on January 5th.

If you know our team and our co-owner, Leeann Froese, you’ll know that birds mean a lot to us here at Town Hall Brands.

A total bird watcher and lover of birds since she was a child, Leeann is a self-proclaimed but knowledgeable ‘bird nerd’, and she has managed to weave it into our agency’s world. She’ll be visiting vineyards and locations all over the world, and always have her binoculars in hand to see what birds she can spot.

Her favourite game is when a friend will send her a description or photo of a bird they saw, and ask her if she knows what it is.

We know not everyone is as excited about birds as Leeann is, so we thought it would be fun to talk about some of the ways that birds relate to a few of our clients, as we celebrate birds today.

Blasted Church

If you visit Blasted Church Vineyards in Okanagan Falls British Columbia, as you drive along the road to the winery, you will notice on top of a tall pole, a platform that has a nest in it. This is the nest of two osprey, Ozzy and Harriet, who look over the vineyards and fish from nearby Skaha Lake. When enjoying a glass of wine on the patio at the winery, if you are lucky you might see one of them carrying a fish back to the nest.

Echo Haskap

Birds are very important to the team at the beautiful Echo Haskap Organic farm. The farm, nestled in the stunning Creighton Valley, is dedicated to producing high-quality berries while preserving the beauty of its surroundings. Throughout the fruit bushes are many hummingbirds. Hummingbirds are a symbol of good luck and signify intelligence, beauty, devotion, and love. The hummingbird inspires the team so much that they decided to put it on the label, and name their haskap wine Rara Avis, which translates to ‘rare bird’. A perfect wine to toast birds with!

Garnet Valley Ranch

In Summerland’s beautiful Garnet Valley, at high elevation you will find the Garnet Valley Ranch Winery property, which is teeming with wildlife, including several species of birds that include meadowlarks, owls, hawks, and songbirds. When enjoying a glass of wine at the Outlook tasting room, don’t be surprised if a heron flies over the pond.
